Kenyan Universities are still very active in sports and in our case, tennis to be precise. The Nyanza Lawn Tennis Association in conjunction with the Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA)  hosted a tennis competition over the weekend from Friday 18th December to Sunday 20th December 2015. The games were played at the NLTA Tennis Centre in Kisumu. The University Teams (46 participants) represented in both Ladies & Gentlemen events were; Maseno University (M.U), University Of Nairobi (U.O.N), United States International University (U.S.I.U), Strathmore University(STRATH), Moi University (M.U), Kenyatta University(K.U), Jomo Kenyatta University Of Agriculture & Technology(J.K.U.A.T), Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University Of Science And Technology (J.O.O.U.S.T), & University Of Eldoret (U.O.E)

Chizi Mutsumi from U.S.I.U won the ladies event after dispatching Ruth Mutai from Moi University in a thrilling final. The third place was taken by Darlene Nyangányi from University Of Eldoret who defeated Lilian Amosi from Kenyatta University.

The men´s event saw Collins Ogutu from Kenyatta University, emerge top in another exciting final against George Abongó also from the same University. Third place went to Collins Oyugi from J.K.U.A.T, who won against his team mate,  George Githinji in a tightly contested third place slot. These players will break for Christmas and then the focus will shift to the upcoming tournaments in Kenya, across the region and a whole year to prepare for the East Africa Inter-University Games slated for December 2016  in Nairobi , Kenya.

NLTA wish to thank all the participants who took part in this event in Kisumu. Special thanks goes to Tennis Kenya, Kenya University Sports Association, Security forces, the NLTA family and all our students who volunteered in various fields to make this event a success. For players who will proceed to the East Africa Games & beyond, all the best and God bless.
